Mera Chaorel Houba (also called Mera Chaoren Houba) is a traditional religious festival of Manipur. It is dedicated to Lord Lainingthou Sanamahi and Goddess Leimarel Sidabi and is celebrated by both the Meitei people and the tribal communities of the hills. The festival is held on the first day of the Mera month in the Meitei lunar calendar.
The main idea of this festival is unity and brotherhood among the different ethnic groups of Manipur. The biggest celebrations take place at Kangla Palace and the Sanamahi Temple in Imphal West, where devotees offer fruits, vegetables, rice, lights, and incense to the deities. Sacred water from the Nungjeng Pukhri pond at Kangla Palace is also collected and offered during the rituals.
